The National Church
The general expression of the church is dedicated to equipping congregations to be and share the Good News from their doorsteps to the ends of the earth. The self-governing ministries work together to support the local congregation and regions. Congregations provide critical financial support to these ministries through Disciples Mission Fund. General Ministries are covenantally accountable to the General Board and General Assembly, providing in-depth reports, participation and leadership to both bodies.
Our Region
The mission of the Alabama-Northwest Florida Region is to encourage and equip its congregations and pastors for the ministry of Jesus Christ in local communities and throughout the world, while seeking to nurture them into deeper relationship with God, with each other, and with the whole Church.
Congregational Structure
In the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) congregations are connected to each other and to the whole church by a common covenant that continues to allow for each expression of church life (congregational, regional, and general) to be self-governing and to make decisions that are only binding upon the body that has taken the decision. Each expression thus has its own rights and responsibilities – all set within a mutual covenantal accountability. For a fuller description of this covenantal relationship, please read the first section that relates to congregations (paragraphs 1-4 in The Design of the Christian Church).
The Mission of the Christian Church
To be and to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, witnessing, loving and serving from our doorsteps “to the ends of the earth.”
– Acts 1:8
The Vision of the Christian Church
To be a faithful, growing church, that demonstrates true community, deep Christian spirituality and a passion for justice.
As members of the Christian Church,
We confess that Jesus is the Christ,
the Son of the living God,
and proclaim him Lord and Savior of the world.
In Christ’s name and by his grace
we accept our mission of witness
and service to all people.
from The Preamble to The Design of the Christian Church

Disciples Women
As part of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Disciples Women welcomes all to the table as Christ has welcomed us. The ministries of Disciples Women are part of the movement for wholeness in a fragmented world by providing opportunities for spiritual growth, enrichment, education, and creative ministries to enable women to develop a sense of personal responsibility for the whole mission of the church.
We seek to be a network of women committed to the justice-seeking, compassion-focused mission of Jesus Christ with no membership requirements or conditions.
The Disciples Women ministry of First Christian Church Tuscaloosa includes three circles, each meeting monthly.
Racial Reconciliation

The Pro-reconciliation/Anti-Racism Initiative was founded upon the need to make visible God’s beloved community. It invites the church to listen to the once silenced voices of its racial/ethnic communities, learn from their wisdom and gain insight from their leadership. It calls the church to discernment and prayer, study of the scriptures and reflection, dialogue and table fellowship. The true goal is to transform, strengthen and deepen the church’s spirituality, resulting in a community that understands its mission to be about bringing justice and salvation to the world.
